SHANE van Gisbergen’s Sandown preparations have been rocked by a huge crash during testing this morning at Queensland Raceway.

Van Gisbergen suffered a brake failure on the run to Turn 6 at approximately 9:45am AEST and spun hard into the barriers.

The three-time champion is okay, having extricated himself from the wreckage via the passenger door.

The #97 Red Bull Ampol Camaro was hauled back to the pitlane, where significant front-end damage was clear to see.

The Triple Eight crew had initially looked set to send the car back to their Banyo workshop but have instead now got stuck into repairs in the QR garages, with hopes of getting back out on track before the end of the day.

Today was a pre-enduro test for van Gisbergen and co-driver Richie Stanaway, their car having been used yesterday for steering rack testing on the category’s behalf.

Nine other main game cars are at QR: Triple Eight’s #88 and #888 Camaros, Dick Johnson Racing’s three Mustangs, plus the regular two entries of Matt Stone Racing and PremiAir Racing.

Testing is also occurring at Winton Motor Raceway, ahead of the Sandown 500 on September 15-17.
